Blogosphere Ranking
Tumeke has released their blogoshpere rankings for the month of January.
NewZblog was created on the 31st of December by hcjs and illuminatedtiger, within a week I joined and since then policyparrot and robinsod have become posters also.
42 days into our blog and we have been ranked amongst this countries other political blogs. To my surprise we managed to make the top 20 in January. January put us at 19th out of 175.
I’m quite proud of that, and I’m sure we can do better than that over time. Thanks to our regular viewers, and especially our commenters.

I’m suspicious of Alexa rankings personally as they rely on people downloading and installing the Alexa toolbar (I don’t know anyone who has done this). I’ve also noticed that if you check the comparison graphs for political blogs (with smoothing off) that they tend to follow similar patterns - this implies that there are a low number of Alexa users who are coming online and hitting all the political blogs around the same time. Check this out:
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/kiwiblog.co.nz?site0=kiwiblog.co.nz&site1=thestandard.org.nz&site2=whaleoil.co.nz&site3=publicaddress.net&y=r&z=0&h=300&w=610&range=1m&size=Medium
I’m pretty certain the small number of alexa users is leading to misleading results

Yeah, it’s dodgy alright Sod. Alexa seems to underreport The Standard’s traffic by several orders of magnitude. It’s also interesting when you look back how often the blog is listed as having zero visitors in any given day. That’s just absurd, and lends weight to the idea that Alexa’s sample size is too small to be of much use.
